Vesicare 5 mg 30 tablets:

Solifenacin succinate 5 mg film-coated tablets.

Why solifenacin is used: 

  • Solifenacin belongs to the group of anticholinergics. These medications are used to reduce overactive bladder.
  • This enables you to wait longer before going to the bathroom and increases the amount of urine your bladder can hold.
  • Solifenacin is used to treat symptoms of a condition called overactive bladder
  • These symptoms include: having a strong, sudden urge to urinate without warning, having to urinate frequently or wetting yourself because you couldn't get to the bathroom in time.

How to use solifenacin: 

  • The recommended dose is 5 mg per day, unless your doctor tells you to take 10 mg per day.

Do not use solifenacin:

  • Do not take solifenacin succinate if you:
  • You are allergic to solifenacin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
  • Inability to pass water or empty the bladder completely (urinary retention)
  • You have a severe stomach or intestinal condition (including toxic megacolon, a complication associated with ulcerative colitis)
  • He suffers from a muscle disease called myasthenia gravis, which can cause severe weakness in certain muscles
  • Suffer or are at risk of suffering from increased pressure in the eye, with gradual loss of vision (glaucoma)
  • Are undergoing dialysis
  • Have severe liver disease
  • Have severe kidney disease or moderate liver disease and are being treated at the same time with medications that may reduce the removal of solifenacin from the body (eg, ketoconazole). Your doctor or pharmacist will tell you if this is the case

Warnings and precautions:

  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking solifenacin succinate if you:
  • You have difficulty emptying your bladder (bladder obstruction) or difficulty urinating (such as a thin stream of urine). The risk of urine accumulating in the bladder (urinary retention) is much higher.
  • Have some obstruction in the digestive tract (eg constipation).
  • Are at risk of slowing down of the digestive system (stomach and bowel movements). Your doctor will tell you if this is the case.
  • He suffers from severe kidney disease.
  • Have moderate liver disease.
  • You are taking certain medications known as CYP3A4 inhibitors (such as ketoconazole) which may increase the amount of solifenacin in your blood
  • You have a ruptured stomach (hiatus hernia) or heartburn and/or take certain medications (such as biphosphate) that can cause or worsen esophagitis.
  • Have a nerve disorder (autonomic neuropathy).
  • You suffer from changes in heart rhythm (shown on the electrocardiogram) or low levels of potassium in the blood.

Possible side effects:

  • Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you experience tightness in the throat, swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, feel faint, or have difficulty breathing.
  • Stop using the product if you experience hives or itching of the face or body.

Other medicines and solifenacin:  

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
  • It is especially important to inform your doctor if you are taking:
  • Other anticholinergic medications (such as atropine, oxybutynin, hydroxyzine, bupropion, dextromethorphan) because they may increase the effects and side effects of both drugs.
  • Cholinergic substances (medicines such as carbachol and pilocarpine) because they can reduce the effect of solifenacin.
  • Medications, such as metoclopramide and cisapride, that make the digestive system work faster.
  • Solifenacin can reduce their effect.
  • Medications, such as ketoconazole, ritonavir, nelfinavir, itraconazole, verapamil and diltiazem, which reduce the rate at which solifenacin is broken down in the body
  • Medicines such as rifampicin, phenytoin and carbamazepine, because they may increase the rate at which solifenacin is broken down in the body.
