Ringer's Lactated Solution (RL), also known as sodium lactate solution and Hartmann's solution
Ringer's Lactated is a mixture of sodium chloride, sodium lactate, potassium chloride, and calcium chloride in water.
Uses
- It is used to replace the loss of fluids and salts from the body in cases of burns and blood loss due to bleeding.
Precautions and warnings
- It should be used with extreme caution, in any case, in patients with congestive heart failure and acute renal insufficiency, and in clinical cases in which there is edema with sodium retention
- Intravenous administration of Ringer's Lactate can result in increased fluid and/or solute dilution leading to dilution of serum electrolyte concentrations, fluid overload, and cases of congestion or pulmonary edema
Possible side effects
- Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you experience tightness in the throat, swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, feel faint, or have difficulty breathing.
- Stop using the product if you experience hives or itching on the face or body
