Organic Sushi Rice - Japanese Style Short Rice

Cleanspring's Organic Sushi Rice provides the perfect base for creating delicious, perfectly cooked rice, which can be used to prepare Japan's most popular sushi dish. This type of rice, Seleno, known for its short grains, has characteristics very similar to the japonica rice used to prepare sushi in Japan. It is grown organically in the Piemonte region in northwestern Italy, an area also famous for growing risotto rice.

When the rice is cooked, it is carefully processed to achieve optimal flavor and quality using a rice mill located in the nearby town of Trino. Brown rice is produced when only the outer layer (husk) of the rice grain is removed. To produce white rice, the following layers under the husk (bran and germ layer) are removed, leaving it white.

How to cook sushi rice?

  1. Rinse 1 cup (250 grams) of sushi rice with cold water and drain.
  2. Place it in a pot with 1¼ cups (310 ml) of cold water, and let it soak for 30 minutes.
  3. Bring to a boil, then cover and turn down the heat. Let it simmer for 10-12 minutes or until all the water is absorbed.
  4. Remove from heat and leave covered for 10 minutes.
