Scientific name: Metformin 500 mg extended-release tablets.

Uses:

• Metformin XR extended-release tablets are oral hyperglycemic medications used in the management of type 2 diabetes.
• It controls blood sugar (glucose) and helps your body use insulin effectively.
• This medication is often combined with changes in diet and exercise.

How to use:

• There is no fixed dosing regimen to control hyperglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes on metformin XR.
• Metformin XR dosage should be individualized based on both efficacy and tolerability, with maximum recommended daily doses not exceeded.
• The maximum recommended daily dose of Metformin XR for adults is 2000 mg.
• Metformin XR should generally be given once daily with the evening meal.
• Metformin
• For adults: The usual starting dose of Metformin XR (Metformin Hydrochloride) extended-release tablets is 500 mg once daily with the evening meal.
• Doses should be increased in increments of 500 mg weekly to a maximum of 2,000 mg once daily with the evening meal.
• If glycemic control is not achieved with metformin XR 2000 mg once daily, a trial of metformin XR 1000 mg twice daily should be considered.
• If higher doses of metformin are needed, metformin should be used in total daily doses of up to 2550 mg in divided daily doses, as described above.

Side effects:

• Gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and loss of appetite may occur, especially at the beginning of treatment.
• Disorder in the sense of taste.
• Lactic Acidosis is a very serious complication that leads to vomiting, abdominal pain with muscle cramps and/or a general feeling of malaise with extreme fatigue and which requires special treatment. If this occurs, the patient should stop taking the medication immediately and consult a doctor immediately.
• Skin reactions such as skin redness, itching.
• Low levels of vitamin B12.
• Liver dysfunction or hepatitis that resolves when the drug is discontinued.

Warnings and precautions:

Risk of lactic acidosis: Metformin hydrochloride may cause a very rare but very serious side effect called lactic acidosis, especially if your kidneys are not working properly if you have uncontrolled diabetes, serious infections, liver problems, and dehydration.

• Stop taking metformin hydrochloride and contact your doctor or the nearest hospital immediately if you experience some symptoms of lactic acidosis, as this condition may lead to coma.
• Symptoms of lactic acidosis:

4. A general feeling of discomfort and extreme fatigue.

6. Low body temperature and heart rate.

• Risk of developing hypoglycemia:

1. If you take metformin hydrochloride with other diabetes medications, it may cause hypoglycemia.
2. If you experience symptoms of hypoglycemia such as weakness, dizziness, increased sweating, rapid heartbeat, vision disturbances or difficulty concentrating, eating or drinking something containing sugar will usually help.

Preservation method:
