Omeprazole is used to treat excess stomach acid in conditions such as noncancerous stomach ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, active duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and erosive esophagitis.
Omeprazole works by blocking the production of stomach acid and is in a group of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors.
Omeprazole may also be used in combination with antibiotics to treat stomach ulcers caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).
Usage instructions:
For intravenous injection:
Omeprazole vials should be given as an intravenous infusion over 20-30 minutes.
The contents of one vial should be dissolved in at least 100 mL of normal saline or 100 mL of 5% dextrose for intravenous injection.
Warnings and Precautions:
You should not use omeprazole if you are allergic to it, or if you have ever had breathing or kidney problems, or you've had a severe allergic reaction after taking omeprazole in the past.
