Uses:
- Escitalopram is used to treat depression (major depressive episodes) and anxiety disorders (such as social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder).
- It may take up to two weeks before you start feeling better.
- Depression is a persistent mood disorder that interferes with daily life.
- Symptoms of depression vary from person to person, but often include deep sadness, feelings of worthlessness, loss of interest in favorite activities, sleep disturbances, feeling sluggish, feelings of anxiety, and weight changes.
How to use:
The usual recommended dose of escitalopram is 10 mg taken as a single daily dose. Your doctor may increase the dose to a maximum of 20 mg per day.
The starting dose of escitalopram is 5 mg as a single daily dose for the first week before increasing the dose to 10 mg per day. Your doctor may increase your dose to a maximum of 20 mg per day.
The usual recommended dose of escitalopram is 10 mg taken as a single daily dose. Your doctor can either reduce your dose to 5 mg per day or increase your dose to a maximum of 20 mg per day, depending on how you respond to the medication.
- Generalized anxiety disorder:

- Obsessive-compulsive disorder:
The usual recommended dose of escitalopram is 10 mg taken as a single daily dose. Your doctor may increase the dose to a maximum of 20 mg per day.
- Elderly patients (over 65 years):
The recommended starting dose of escitalopram is 5 mg taken as one dose daily. Your doctor may increase the dose to 10 mg per day.
Escitalopram should not usually be given to children and teenagers.
Intake:
- You can take escitalopram with or without food.
- Swallow the tablet with some water and do not chew it, as the taste is bitter.
Side effects:
Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may complain of:
- Stuffy or runny nose (sinusitis).
- Decreased or increased appetite.
- Anxiety, abnormal dreams, difficulty sleeping, feeling sleepy, dizziness.
- Diarrhea, constipation, increased sweating.
- Muscle and joint pain, fatigue and fever.
- overweight.
Preservation method:
- Store at a temperature below 25 degrees Celsius.
- Do not refrigerate the medicine in the refrigerator.
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Must be stored in the original packaging to protect it from moisture.
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the package.
