Montel 5mg 28 Chew Tablets
Uses:
- Leukotrienes cause narrowing and swelling of the airways in the lungs. By blocking leukotrienes, montelukast improves asthma symptoms and helps control asthma.
- Leukotriene blockade improves symptoms of seasonal allergies (also known as hay fever or seasonal allergic rhinitis).
- Your doctor will decide how to use montelukast depending on your symptoms and the severity of your asthma.
How to use:
- Make sure your child always uses this medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to.
- Montelukast should not be used with other medicines that contain the same active ingredient, montelukast.
- Montelukast should be taken even if the disease is under control, and during periods of worsening of the disease (asthma attacks).
For children from 6 to 14 years:
- The recommended dose is one 5 mg chewable tablet daily, taken in the evening.
- For asthma patients, take montelukast once daily in the evening.
- For patients with seasonal allergies, montelukast should be taken once daily as directed by your physician.
- This medication should be taken orally.
- The tablets should be chewed before swallowing.
- Montelukast 5 mg tablets should not be taken with food. They should be taken at least one hour before or two hours after food.
Use of Montelukast for adults and adolescents over 15 years of age:
- The dosage is determined by the doctor who adjusts it for you.
- The recommended dose for asthma and/or seasonal allergies is one 10 mg tablet once a day.
- For asthma patients, take montelukast once daily in the evening.
- For patients with seasonal allergies, take montelukast once daily as directed by your doctor.
- This medication should be taken orally.
- The 10 mg tablets may be swallowed with a little water, and may be taken alone or with food.
- If your child takes too much montelukast call your child's doctor right away for advice.
- Most overdose reports indicate no side effects and the most common symptoms of overdose reported in adults and children are abdominal pain, drowsiness, thirst, headache, vomiting, and hyperactivity.
If you forget to take Montelukast or give it to your child:
- Try giving montelukast as prescribed. However, if your child misses a dose, simply continue with the usual dose of one chewable tablet daily.
- Do not give a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
If you or your child stops treatment with montelukast:
- Montelukast can only treat your or your child's asthma if you continue to take it.
- It is important that you or your child continue to take montelukast for as long as your doctor prescribes it.
- It will help you or your child control his or her asthma.
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about using this medicine.
Warnings and precautions:
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before your child uses montelukast.
- If your child's asthma or wheezing worsens, call the doctor immediately.
- Montelukast tablets are not intended to treat severe asthma attacks.
- If a seizure occurs, follow the instructions your child's doctor gave you.
- Always have your child's emergency medications on hand.
- It is important that your child takes asthma medication as prescribed by the doctor.
- Montelukast should not be used in place of other asthma medications that your doctor has prescribed for you or your child.
- Any patient using asthma medication should be aware that if they develop a combination of symptoms including a flu-like sensation, tingling or numbness in the arms and legs, worsening lung symptoms and/or rash, they should contact their physician.
- You or your child should not take aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (also known as NSAIDs) if they worsen your asthma.
The components:
- The active ingredient is available in different concentrations: 5 mg or 10 mg montelukast.
- Each chewable tablet contains Montelukast sodium equivalent to 5 mg Montelukast.
