Scientific name: Cefixime.
Uses:
Cefixime treats many types of inflammation and infections, such as:
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli, among others.
- Otitis media caused by Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella influenzae.
- Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by streptococci.
- Acute bronchitis and exacerbation of chronic bronchitis caused by the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae Haemophilus influenzae.
- Uncomplicated gonorrhea of the cervix and urethra caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
How to use:
The doctor determines the dose of cefixime depending on the patient's condition, age, and infection, but the dose is often as follows:
- Cefixime dose for adults is 400 mg once daily to treat various infections such as gonorrhea.
- Cefixime dose for children Children's dose: 8 mg/kg/day of suspension, which can be taken as a single dose or divided into two doses (4 mg/kg every 12 hours).
Note: The treatment period depends on the type of inflammation, its severity, the patient’s age, and his health condition. Patients with renal impairment need to adjust the dose of cefixime.

Interactions with other medications:
It is recommended that Cefixime not be coadministered with the following medications:
- BCG tuberculosis vaccine: Cefixime reduces the effectiveness of the tuberculosis vaccine.
- Cholera vaccine.
- Typhoid vaccine.
- Warfarin.
