Scientific name: Alfacalcidol 0.25 mcg capsules.
Uses:
- Alfacalcidol is used to treat diseases in which the amount of calcium in your body needs to be changed.
- It is used to treat: Changes in the bones due to kidney failure (bone atrophy).
- It is used to treat: changes in the thyroid glands.
- It is used to treat: Low levels of calcium in the blood of newborns (hypocalcemia).
- It is used to treat: softening and deformity of bones due to calcium deficiency (rickets or osteomalacia).
How to use:
- Adults and children weighing more than 20 kg: The usual starting dose is 1 mcg every day.
- Individuals usually take between 1 and 3 micrograms each day.
Side effects:
You should get urgent medical help if you have any of the following symptoms. You may have an allergic reaction:
- You have difficulty breathing.
- Swelling of the face or throat.
- Your skin develops a severe rash.
Warnings and precautions:
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before taking falcalcidol:
- If you are taking any other medicines.
- If you have any kidney problems.
- If you have granulomas or sarcoidosis.
Do not take alfacalcidol:
- If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to alfacalcidol or any of the other ingredients.
- If you know that you have a condition called hypercalcemia.
- This means that you have high levels of calcium in your blood.
- If you know you have a condition called calcification.
- This means that you have high levels of calcium in your body tissues.
