Omeprazole 40 mg gastro resistant hard capsules.
Omeprazole belongs to a group of medicines called proton pump inhibitors. They work by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces.
Omeprazole is used to treat:
- “Gastroesophageal reflux disease,” in which stomach acid escapes into your esophagus (the tube that connects your throat to your stomach), causing pain, inflammation and heartburn.
- Ulcers in the upper intestine or stomach.
- Ulcers infected with bacteria called Helicobacter pylori.
- Ulcers caused by medications called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Omeprazole may also be used to prevent ulcer formation if you are taking NSAIDs.
- Increased acidity in the stomach due to the growth of the pancreas (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome).
Do not take omeprazole:
- If you are allergic to omeprazole or any of the other ingredients of this medication.
- If you are allergic to medications containing other proton pump inhibitors.
Warnings and precautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking omeprazole
- You lose a lot of weight for no reason and have problems swallowing.
- You suffer from stomach pain or indigestion.
- You start vomiting food or blood.
- Black stools (blood-stained stools).
- If you suffer from severe or persistent diarrhea.
- You have serious liver problems.
- You are due to undergo a specific blood test (chromogranin A).

- Suddenly feeling wheezing.
- Inflammation inside the mouth.
- Liver problems.
- Hair loss.
- Skin rash when exposed to sunlight.
How to take omeprazole:
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- Your doctor will tell you how many capsules to take and for how long. This will depend on your condition and how old you are.
- It is recommended to take your capsules in the morning.
- You can take the capsules with food or on an empty stomach.
- Swallow your capsules whole with half a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the capsules because the capsules contain coated granules that prevent breakdown of the medication.
