• The HME respiratory device filter is used in cases where the user breathes directly through the trachea.
• Breathing through an external tube into the trachea bypasses the natural process of warming, humidifying, and purifying the air through the nose and mouth. 
• The HME filter humidifies, warms, and purifies the air from microbes before it enters the respiratory system.
• The filter must be changed every 7 days for all users.
• The filter must be changed every 48 hours for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
