Montel 4mg Granules 28 Sachet

Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks a group of substances called leukotriene.

Uses:

  • Montelukast is used when prescribed by your doctor to treat your child's asthma and prevent asthma symptoms during the day and at night.
  • Montelukast granules are used to treat asthma in patients aged 6 months to 5 years who are not adequately controlled by their medicines and need additional treatment.
  • Montelukast granules can also be a therapeutic alternative to inhaled steroids for patients aged 2 to 5 years who have not recently taken corticosteroid tablets for asthma and who cannot use inhaled steroids.
  • Montelukast granules also prevent exercise-induced narrowing of the airways in patients ages 2 years and older.
  • Your doctor will decide how to use montelukast granules depending on the symptoms and severity of your child's asthma.

How to use:

  • Make sure your child always uses this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.
  • This medicine should be given to children under adult supervision.
  • Your child should take montelukast granules every evening.
  • It should be taken even if your child has no symptoms or if he or she has a severe asthma attack.

For children from 6 months to 5 years:

  • The recommended dose is one sachet of montelukast 4 mg granules taken orally every evening.
  • If your child is taking montelukast granules, you should make sure that your child is not taking other medicines containing the same active ingredient (montelukast).

For children 6 months to 2 years of age, Montelukast:

  • Montelukast 4 mg granules are available for children aged 2 to 5 years.
  • Montelukast 4 mg granules are not recommended for children under 6 months of age.

How to give Montelukast 4 mg granules to a child:

  • This medication should be taken orally.
  • The sachet is opened immediately before use.

Montelukast granules can be given either:

  • Directly in the mouth.
  • Or mix with 1 tablespoon of cold or room temperature soft food (such as applesauce, ice cream, carrot puree, rice).
  • Mix montelukast granules with a tablespoon of cold or softened room temperature tablets.
  • Make sure to mix the entire dose with food.
  • Make sure the child takes the full spoonful of pellets/food in one go (within 15 minutes).
  • The granules/food mixture should not be stored for later use.
  • Montelukast granules are not intended to be dissolved in liquid, but the liquid may be taken immediately after the granules are swallowed.
  • Montelukast granules can be taken regardless of food intake.

Warnings and precautions:

  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before your child uses montelukast granules.
  • If your child's asthma or wheezing worsens, call the doctor immediately.
  • Montelukast granules are not intended for the treatment of severe asthma attacks.
  • If a seizure occurs, follow the instructions your child's doctor gave you.
  • Always have your child's emergency medications on hand.
  • It is important that your child takes asthma medication as prescribed by the doctor.
  • Montelukast should not be used in place of other asthma medications your doctor has prescribed for your child.
  • If your child is taking asthma medications, know that if he or she develops a combination of symptoms including a flu-like sensation, tingling or numbness in the arms and legs, worsening lung symptoms, and/or a rash, call the doctor.
  • Your child should not take aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (also known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs) if it makes their asthma worse.
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 6 months old.

  • Each sachet of granules contains Montelukast sodium equivalent to 4 mg Montelukast.
