Maxim 400 mg tablets belong to antibacterial drugs.
How Maxim-moxifloxacin works:
- Moxifloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.
- It inhibits DNA replication by inhibiting bacterial DNA topoisomerase and gyrase which are essential for separating bacterial DNA during cell reproduction and division, thus preventing cell division.
Uses of Maxim 400 mg:
Moxifloxacin should only be used to treat these infections when the usual antibiotics cannot be used or have not worked such as:
- Sinusitis.
- Long-term bronchitis.
- Infection of the lungs (pneumonia) acquired outside a hospital (except in severe cases).
- Mild to moderate infections of the female reproductive system.
How to use Maxim 400 mg:
- Always take this medication exactly as your doctor has told you. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- Moxifloxacin tablets are used orally.
- Swallow the tablet whole (to mask the bitter taste) with plenty of liquids.
- You can take moxifloxacin with or without food.
- Try to take the tablet(s) at around the same time each day.
- The length of time you will take moxifloxacin depends on the type and severity of infection you have
- The recommended dose for adults is 400 mg once daily.
- This medication has not been shown to be safe and effective for use in children younger than 18 years.
- It is important that you complete the course of treatment even if you start to feel better after a few days.
- Doses may be changed in special circumstances, so always follow your doctor or pharmacist's instructions.
- If you take more medicine than you should, talk to your doctor or go to hospital straight away.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.
Warnings and precautions:
Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this medication including:
- If you suffer from epilepsy or a condition that makes you prone to seizures.
- If you suffer, or have suffered in the past, from any psychological problems.
- If you suffer from myasthenia gravis.
- If you or any member of your family has glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
- If you have been diagnosed with an enlargement or “bulge” of a large blood vessel.
- If you have diabetes because you may be at risk for a change in your blood sugar levels with moxifloxacin.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby.
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, including nonprescription medicines, prescription drugs, herbal supplements, vitamins, and nutritional supplements.
Side effects:
Although the following side effects are not common in everyone, some patients may report:
- headache.
- Dizziness.
- nausea.
- Vomiting.
- Stomach and abdominal pain.
- Diarrhea. Do not take any medication to treat diarrhea without consulting your doctor first.
- Increased level of liver enzymes in the blood.
- Changes in the electrocardiogram (ECG) in patients with low blood potassium levels.
- sensitive.
- Low red blood cell count (anaemia).
- Low white blood cell count.
