Scientific name: Escitalopram 20 mg tablets.
Uses:
- Escitalopram is used to treat depression (major depressive episodes) and anxiety disorders.
- It may take up to two weeks before you start feeling better.
- Depression is a persistent mood disorder that interferes with daily life.
How to use:
- Take this medication orally.
- Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not chew the tablets.
- Take the tablets with or without food.
- If you feel that the effect of the medicine is too weak or too strong, do not change the dose yourself, but ask your doctor.
- Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly.
- Depression: The usual recommended dose of escitalopram is 10 mg taken as a single daily dose. Your doctor may increase the dose to a maximum of 20 mg per day.
- Panic disorder (anxiety): The starting dose of escitalopram is 5 mg as a single daily dose for the first week before increasing the dose to 10 mg per day. Your doctor may increase the dose to a maximum of 20 mg per day.
- Social anxiety disorder: The usual recommended dose of escitalopram is 10 mg taken as a single daily dose. Your doctor can either reduce your dose to 5 mg per day or increase your dose to a maximum of 20 mg per day.
- Doses may change in special circumstances, so always follow your doctor's instructions.
side effects:
Side effects are not common to everyone. Some patients may complain of:
- Stuffy or runny nose (sinusitis).
- Decreased or increased appetite.
- Anxiety, abnormal dreams, difficulty sleeping, feeling sleepy, dizziness.
- Diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, dry mouth.
- Increased sweating.
- Pain in muscles and joints.
- Sexual disorders (delayed ejaculation, erection problems, decreased sex drive).
- Fatigue and fever.
- overweight.
Warnings and precautions:
You should tell your doctor if you suffer from:
- If you suffer from epilepsy, treatment with escitalopram should be stopped if seizures occur at the same time or if there is an increase in the frequency of seizures.
- If you have impaired liver or kidney function, your doctor may need to adjust your dose.
- If you have diabetes you may change your treatment with escitalopram to control your blood sugar.
- If you have low blood sodium level.
- If you have a tendency to bleed or bruise easily.
- If you are receiving electroconvulsive therapy.
- If you suffer from coronary heart disease.
- If you have or have had heart problems or have recently had a heart attack.
- If you have a low resting heart rate and/or you know you may have salt depletion as a result of severe diarrhea, prolonged vomiting or use of diuretics.
- If you experience a fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, or dizziness when standing, which may indicate abnormal heart rate performance.
- If you have or have ever had eye problems, such as certain types of glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye).
Preservation method:
- Store at a temperature below 25 degrees Celsius.
