Fosamax 70 mg 4 tablets:
Alendronic acid tablets once weekly 70 mg.
Alendronic acid tablets are used:
- To treat osteoporosis or you are at risk of developing this disease.
Do not take alendronic acid tablets if you:
- You are allergic to alendronic acid, the active ingredient, or any of the other ingredients of this medication
- You have certain disorders of your esophagus (the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach) such as stricture or difficulty swallowing
- You are unable to stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes
- Your doctor has told you that you have a low level of calcium in your blood.
How to take alendronic acid tablets:
Recommended dosage:
- To treat osteoporosis in men or postmenopausal women, the recommended dose is 10 mg once a day.
- For the prevention of steroid-induced osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who are not receiving hormone replacement therapy (HRT) with estrogen, the recommended dose is 10 mg once a day.
Warnings and precautions:
It is important to tell your doctor before taking alendronic acid tablets if:
- You have kidney problems.
- You have any swallowing or digestive problems.
- Your doctor has told you that you have Barrett's esophagus.
- You have cancer.
- You are taking corticosteroids.
- You are or were a smoker.
Possible side effects:
- heartburn; Difficulty swallowing Pain when swallowing. Ulceration in the esophagus causing chest pain, heartburn, or difficulty or pain when swallowing.
Other medicines and alendronic acid tablets:
- Calcium supplements, antacids and some oral medications can potentially interfere with the absorption of alendronic acid tablets if taken at the same time.
- Some medications to treat rheumatism or long-term pain called NSAIDs (such as acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) or ibuprofen) may cause digestive problems.
