Loratadine belongs to a class of medications called antihistamines, which are used to treat various allergic conditions.

Loratadine tablets are used for:

• For the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis.
• To relieve the symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria (skin rash consisting of cells and blood).

Do not take loratadine:

• If you are allergic to loratadine or any of the other ingredients of this medication.

• You have serious liver problems.
• You are scheduled to undergo any skin tests for allergies. Do not take loratadine tablets for two days before having these tests. This is because it may affect the test results.

Possible side effects of loratadine:

• You should stop taking loratadine tablets immediately and consult your doctor if you have an allergic reaction to this medicine. This could consist of:
  
  • Skin rash or rash (including inside the mouth) that is itchy.
  • Swelling of the face/tongue/lips/hands/feet.
  • Difficulty breathing.
• The most common side effects reported in adults and children over 12 years are:
  
  • Sleepiness.
  • Headache.
  • Increased appetite.
  • Difficulty sleeping.
• The most common side effects reported in children aged 2 to 12 years are:
  
  • Headache.
  • Nervousness.
  • Tired.
