Lumigan 0.1mg/ml Eye Drops 3ml:
Bimatoprost 0.01% eye drops solution
What is the use of bimatoprost:
- Bimatoprost is used for patients with open-angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye that can lead to vision loss) to reduce eye pressure and in patients with ocular hypertension.
Do not use bimatoprost:
- If you are allergic to bimatoprost, or any other ingredients this medication contains. Tell your doctor about the symptoms you experience.
- In children under 16 years of age.
Warnings and precautions:
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience an allergic reaction such as shortness of breath, rash, swelling of the face or neck.
- This medication may cause changes in the color, growth, length, thickness, color, direction, and number of your eyes and eyelashes.
- The change in your eye color may increase during treatment. Color changes may not be noticed until months or years have passed.
- Once you stop using this medication, your eye color change is expected to be permanent, unlike the eyelashes and area around the eyes which are expected to regain their original color.
- You can continue taking the medication even if you experience changes in eye color, however, be sure to have your eyes examined by your doctor.
- Be sure to tell your doctor about other eye disorders you have such as eye inflammation or eye edema.
- Make sure to remove contact lenses before using eye drops. You can wear contact lenses again at least 15 minutes after applying the eye drops.
- Avoid contact of the eye drop tip with the eye to prevent bacterial contamination.
- Seek your doctor's advice if you develop an eye infection, eye or eyelid reactions, or if you plan to have surgery.
- If you are using more than one eye drop solution, be sure to take each at least five minutes apart.
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting this medication if you wear contact lenses.
- This product contains a preservative known as benzalkonium chloride which can affect the color of your soft contact lenses and may also cause eye irritation, especially if you have corneal problems or dry eyes, so be sure to remove the soft contact lens before putting in the eye drops and wait 15 minutes. At least before putting your contact lenses back on.
- Talk to your doctor if you feel an abnormal eye sensation (pain or tingling) in your eye after applying eye drops.
- This medication may worsen eye inflammation if you have one. Talk to your doctor before starting this medication if you have an eye infection.
- This medication may cause macular edema (the retina becomes swollen) especially if you do not have a lens (surgically removed) or if you have an artificial lens implanted in your eye.
- Talk to your doctor before starting this medication if you have any of these eye lens problems.
- Talk to your doctor if you develop signs of macular edema such as blurry or wavy vision.
Possible side effects:
- The most common side effects are redness and dilation of the eye vessels.
- Common side effects include eyelash growth and itchy eyes.
- Other side effects include eye irritation, darkening of the eyelid or eye, darkening of the eyelashes, eye discharge and tears, sensitivity to light, allergic conjunctivitis (eye allergy), eye inflammation, eye swelling, eye bleeding, abnormal hair growth, Blurred vision, astigmatism (eye strain), redness around the eye, dry eye, pigmentation of the skin around the eye, inflammation of the eyelids, cataracts, superficial punctate keratitis (an eye disorder caused by the death of small groups of cells on the surface of the cornea), pain in the eye. Eye, burning and stinging sensation in the eye, foreign body sensation in the eye, infections (such as upper respiratory infections and colds), headache, and abnormal liver function tests.
Other medications and bimatoprost:
- Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any medicines, including eye drops. If you are using more than one eye drop solution, be sure to take each at least five minutes apart to avoid dripping of the eye drops.
How to use Bimatoprost:
grown ups:
- The recommended dose is one drop in the affected eye once daily at night.
- Do not use more than once daily because the effectiveness of treatment may decrease.
Children (under 16 years):
- This medicine is not recommended for use in children under 16 years of age due to the risk of increased pigmentation due to long-term use.
Instructions for use:
- Wash your hands. Remove the package cap. Tilt your head slightly back and pull your lower eyelid down to create a pocket.
- Place the drop above your eye with the tip facing down. Look up and away from the drop and then squeeze the container to release a drop.
- Let go of the lower eyelid and close your eyes for 30 seconds. If you miss an eye drop, repeat the steps. Wipe any excess drops from your cheeks.
- If you are using more than one eye drop solution, be sure to take each at least five minutes apart.
- Use the medication at the same time every day.
- Do not stop using the medicine without consulting your doctor.
- Do not use the eye drops if the seal on the neck of the bottle is broken when you first use it.
- The eye drops to lower your eye pressure should start after 4 hours with the best effect after 8 to 12 hours.
