Micardis 80 mg 28 tablets:
- Micardis belongs to a group of medicines called angiotensin inhibitors
- Angiotensin II is a substance produced by the body that causes constriction of blood vessels and thus raises blood pressure.
- Micardis blocks the effect of angiotensin II so that blood vessels dilate and blood pressure decreases.
- Micardis is used to treat high blood pressure in adults, also known as essential hypertension.
- The word "essential" means that high blood pressure is not caused by other conditions.
- If high blood pressure is not treated, it can damage blood vessels in many organs, which can sometimes lead to a heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, or blindness.
- High blood pressure usually does not cause any symptoms until the damage is done.
- Therefore, it is important to measure blood pressure regularly to ensure that it is within the normal range.
- Micardis is also used to reduce cardiovascular disease (such as heart attack or stroke) in adults who are at risk for having reduced or blocked blood supply to the heart or legs, having a stroke, or having high-risk diabetes.
- Your doctor can tell you if you are at risk of such events.

- However, your doctor may recommend a lower dose of 20 mg or a higher dose of 80 mg.
- Micardis can also be used with diuretics (water tablets) such as hydrochlorothiazide, which has been shown to have a stronger blood pressure-lowering effect with Micardis.
- To reduce cardiovascular disease, the usual dose of Micardis is one 80 mg tablet once a day.
- Blood pressure should be measured frequently at the beginning of prophylaxis with Micardis 80 mg.
- If the liver is not working as well as it should, the dose should usually not exceed 40 mg once a day.
