Nostifix 0.5 mg Tablets belongs to prolactin inhibitors.
How cabergoline works:
- Cabergoline belongs to a group of medicines called dopamine agonists and prolactin inhibitors.
- It works by increasing the secretion of dopamine in the brain, which leads to a decrease in the secretion of the hormone prolactin.
- Prolactin is a hormone secreted by the pituitary gland in the brain. During pregnancy, it stimulates milk formation.
Uses of Nostifix 0.5 mg tablets:
- Stop expressing breast milk for medical reasons only and when your doctor decides it is necessary. Cabergoline should not be used routinely to stop breast milk production.
- Treating fertility and menstrual cycle problems usually caused by prolactin irregularity. This includes polycystic ovary syndrome (reduces prolactin levels).
- Treating non-cancerous brain tumors called prolactin tumors (the medicine works to reduce prolactin levels).
- Treating Parkinson's disease (by increasing dopamine levels).
How to use Nostifix 0.5 mg Tablets:
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.
- Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- Dosages may change from patient to patient based on your age, medical condition, and whether you are taking other medications.
- It is recommended that cabergoline be taken with or after food to help reduce feelings of nausea or vomiting.
