Prozac 20 mg 28 capsules:
Fluoxetine 20 mg capsule.
Why is Fluoxetine used:
- Fluoxetine is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder), and panic attacks.
Do not take fluoxetine:
- If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- If you are taking any of the following drugs: pimozide or thioridazine.
- If you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor in the past two weeks.
How to take fluoxetine:
- This property is intended for adults over 18 years of age.
- Your doctor may prescribe it for children 8 years and older if necessary.
- Take this drug as ordered by your doctor.
- For depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, the usual starting dose is 20 mg once daily.
- Your doctor may gradually increase your dose.
- For bulimia nervosa, the recommended dose is 60 mg once daily.
- For children 8 years and older, the usual starting dose is 10-20 mg once daily.
Warnings and precautions:
Tell your doctor about all your health conditions, including, if you have:
- If you suffer from liver or kidney problems.
- If you have or have ever had heart problems including QT prolongation.
- If you suffer from seizures or epilepsy.
- If you suffer from bipolar disorder or mania.
- If you have low levels of sodium in your blood.
- If you have a history of stroke.
- If you suffer from high blood pressure.
- If you have or have had bleeding problems.
- If you suffer from eye problems.
- This drug may cause suicidal thoughts, especially in young people, in the first months of treatment. Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms.
- Do not stop taking this drug suddenly. You may experience side effects. Talk to your doctor about how to stop taking fluoxetine.
Possible side effects:
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention:
- If you get a rash; itch; red, blistered, or peeling skin; tightness in the chest or throat; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; Unusual hoarseness or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Serious side effects:
- Suicidal thoughts or actions, especially at first.
- Serotonin Syndrome: A serious and sometimes fatal problem in which you experience confusion, confusion or hallucinations, rapid or irregular heartbeat, seizures and tremors, excessive sweating or seizures.
- Allergic reactions.
- Seizures and epilepsy.
- Heart problems: irregular heartbeat.
- Low levels of sodium in the blood.
- Abnormal bleeding including gastric bleeding.
Other medications and fluoxetine:
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take.
- Do not take an MAOI within 5 weeks of stopping fluoxetine and do not take fluoxetine within 2 weeks of stopping an MAOI.
- Do not take thioridazine within 5 weeks of stopping fluoxetine.
- Do not take pimozide while you are being treated with fluoxetine.
- Fluoxetine interacts with linezolid, methylene blue, triptans, medications for depression or anxiety, amphetamines, phenytoin, tramadol, anticoagulants such as warfarin and electroconvulsive therapy.
