Insulin degludec/aspart is an antidiabetic agent, used to lower high blood sugar in people with diabetes. It can be given to adults, teenagers, and children 2 years of age and older.
How to use Insulin Degludec/Aspart:
- Always use this medication exactly as your doctor has told you to.
- Insulin degludec/aspart is injected subcutaneously (under the skin). It can be injected into the abdominal wall, thigh, upper arm, or by continuous infusion into the abdominal wall.
- The effect will be a little faster if the insulin is injected into your abdomen. For all types of insulin,
- Injection sites and injection sites should be within the injection area (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm).
- Alternate from one injection to another.
- Insulin degludec/aspart should be taken before or shortly after meals (0-15 minutes).
Do not use insulin degludec/aspart:
if:
- You are experiencing an episode of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
- You are allergic to insulin degludec/aspart or any of the ingredients of insulin degludec/aspart.
Warnings and precautions:
Tell your health care provider about all of your medical conditions including, if you:
- You have liver or kidney problems.
- You have heart failure or other heart problems.
Possible side effects of insulin degludec/aspart:
Insulin degludec/aspart can cause serious side effects. These side effects only happen to a small number of people and include:
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
- Severe allergic reaction.
- Low potassium in the blood (hypokalemia).
- Heart failure.
Other medicines and insulin degludec/aspart:
- Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take especially those called thiazolidinediones, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, or herbal supplements.
