Cronoxam 100 mg 28 tablets:

Cronoxam 100 mg is a medication containing sitagliptin, a DPP-4 enzyme inhibitor. It is used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes by increasing insulin secretion when blood sugar is high and reducing glucose production in the liver. It is used alongside a healthy diet and exercise and may be used alone or with other diabetes medications.

Uses:

  • Improves blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
  • Used when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to control blood sugar.
  • Can be used alone or with other medications such as metformin, sulfonylureas, thiazolidinediones, or insulin, as directed by your doctor.

Usage instructions:

  • The usual dose is one tablet (100 mg) once daily or as directed by your doctor.
  • The doctor may recommend a lower dose (25 or 50 mg) in patients with impaired kidney function.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water; it can be taken with or without food.
  • Make sure to take it at the same time daily for best results.
  • Continue to follow the recommended diet and exercise during treatment.

Drug interactions:

Chronoxam may interact with some medications, including:

  • Insulin or sulfonylurea drugs, as they may increase the risk of low blood sugar and may require dose adjustment.
  • Digoxin, as sitagliptin may increase its blood levels in some patients.
  • Inform your doctor of all medications, supplements, and herbs you are taking before starting treatment.

Contraindications:

  • Allergy to sitagliptin or any of the drug components.
  • Not used to treat type 1 diabetes.
  • Not used to treat diabetic ketoacidosis.

Warnings and precautions:

  • Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, and dose adjustment may be necessary.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of pancreatitis, gallstones, or high triglycerides.
  • May cause low blood sugar when used with insulin or sulfonylureas.
  • See a doctor immediately if you experience severe and persistent abdominal pain that may radiate to the back, as it could be a sign of pancreatitis.
  • Do not stop treatment without consulting your doctor.

Side effects:

Common side effects include:

  • Headache.
  • Cold-like symptoms such as nasal congestion or sore throat.
  • Dizziness.
  • Low blood sugar when used with other blood sugar-lowering medications.

Rare but potentially serious side effects include:

  • Pancreatitis.
