Suprax 200 mg 8 Capsules

Scientific name: Cefixime 200 mg capsule.

Uses:

• It is used to treat acute infections when caused by susceptible microorganisms: such as respiratory infections and urinary tract infections.
  

How to use:

• Cefixime is used orally.
• The usual course of treatment is 7 days. This may be continued for up to 14 days if necessary.
• Dosages:

1. Adults and children over 10 years or who weigh more than 50 kg: The recommended dose is 200-400 mg daily depending on the severity of the infection, given either as a single dose or in two divided doses.
2. Elderly: Elderly patients may be given the same dose recommended for adults.
3. Children under 10 years: It is not recommended to use cefixime 200 mg tablets for children under 10 years.

Side effects:

• Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop hives, rash, chest tightness, wheezing, and low blood pressure.

Warnings and precautions:

• The dose must be adjusted according to the degree of renal impairment.
• Cefixime can predispose to the risk of encephalopathy (which may include convulsions, confusion, impaired consciousness and movement disturbances), especially in the case of overdose or renal impairment.
• Cefixime may cause acute kidney failure.
• A false-positive reaction to urine glucose may occur with Benedict or Fehling solutions or with copper sulfate test tablets, but not with tests based on enzymatic glucose oxidase reactions.
• A false-positive direct Coombs test has been reported during treatment with cephalosporin antibiotics, so it should be known that a positive Coombs test may be due to the drug.

Preservation method:

• Store at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.
• Store in the original packaging in order to protect from moisture.
• Keep this medicine out of the reach and sight of children.
• Do not dispose of medications in wastewater or household waste.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the package.
