Zovirax 5% Cream 10g:
- Zovirax cream is indicated for the treatment of herpes simplex virus infections of the skin including primary and recurrent genital herpes and herpes labialis.
- Do not use in the eye.
- Zovirax cream is a medicine used to treat the symptoms of cold sores (herpes labialis) and genital herpes.
- Acyclovir cream can be used alone or with other medications.
- Zovirax cream belongs to a class of medications called antivirals.
- It is not known if acyclovir cream is safe and effective for children younger than 12 years.
Instructions for use:
- ZOVIRAX Cream should be used 5 times daily for 4 days.
- Treatment should begin as soon as possible after signs or symptoms of herpes labialis appear, i.e. during the prodrome or when lesions appear.
- For adolescents aged 12 years and older, the dose is the same as in adults.
- Use the cream for at least 5 days.
- If your genital herpes sore has not healed by then, you can continue using the cream for another 5 days.
- If the affected area has not healed after a total of 10 days, stop using the cream and tell your doctor.
Warnings and precautions :
- Zovirax cream is not recommended for use on mucous membranes such as the mouth, eyes, or vagina because it may be irritating.
- Particular care should be taken to avoid accidental entry into the eyes.
- In patients with severe immunodeficiency (eg: AIDS patients or bone marrow transplant recipients), acyclovir should be taken orally. These patients should be encouraged to consult a physician regarding treatment of any infection.
- Zovirax Cream has a specially formulated base and should not be diluted or used as a basis for the introduction of other medicines.
- This medication contains 400 mg of propylene glycol per gram of product. Propylene glycol may cause skin irritation.
- Do not use this medication on newborns with open wounds or large areas of broken or damaged skin (such as burns).
