Scientific name: Pioglitazone 15 mg + Metformin 850 mg tablets.

Uses:

• It is used to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent). It is used when diet and exercise alone fail to control diabetes.

How to use:

• The starting dose is determined based on the patient's current diet and doses are adjusted based on efficacy and tolerability while not exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose of pioglitazone 45 mg and metformin 2550 mg.
• The total dose is given in divided daily doses with meals to reduce gastrointestinal effects due to metformin.
• Patients should be monitored for adverse events related to fluid retention after initiation and dose increases.
• Doses may be changed in special circumstances, so always follow your doctor or pharmacist's instructions.

Side effects:

Side effects are not common to everyone, but some patients may complain of:

• Upper respiratory tract infection.
• Swelling.
• Diarrhea.
• Headache.
• Visit weight.

Warnings and precautions:

• This medication may cause fluid retention and can worsen or lead to congestive heart failure.
• Fractures: increased incidence in female patients.
• Metformin may reduce vitamin B12 levels. Therefore, you must monitor your blood count regularly.
