Alfusin XR 10 mg 30 Tablets:
Alfuzosin can be used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. This occurs when the prostate gland becomes enlarged (hyperplasia), but the growth is not cancerous (it is benign). It can cause problems passing water (urine). This mainly occurs in older men.
The usual dose is one Alfuzosin tablet three times a day.
Do not take Alfusin if:
- You are allergic (hypersensitive) to alfuzosin or any of the other ingredients of alfuzosin.
- You are taking another alpha blocker.
- You have something called orthostatic hypotension.
- You have serious liver problems.
- You are taking other alpha blockers such as: doxazosin, indoramin, prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin, or phenoxybenzamine.
Warnings and precautions:
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if:
- You have chest pain.
- You suffer from a long-term urinary tract infection.
- You will undergo eye surgery for cataracts.
- You have circulation problems affecting the brain.
- You have heart problems.
- You are over 65.
- You may get a painful erection of the penis.
Possible side effects:

- Allergic reactions.
- You may notice symptoms of angioedema, such as a red, lumpy rash, swelling (on the eyelids, face, lips, mouth, and tongue), and difficulty breathing or swallowing. These are symptoms of an allergic reaction. If this happens, stop taking your tablets and contact your doctor or go to hospital immediately.
- Painful erection of the penis (priapism)
- If you get a painful erection of the penis, unrelated to sexual activity, that does not go away, stop taking your tablets and call your doctor or go to hospital immediately.
