Amlodipine contains the active ingredient amlodipine, which belongs to a group of medicines called calcium blockers.
Please note that the doctor may have prescribed the medicine for a different use and/or in a different dose than stated in the package insert.
Always follow your doctor's prescription as stated on the pharmacy label.
Amlodipine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) or a special type of chest pain called angina, including a rare form called Prinzmetal or variant angina.
In patients with high blood pressure, the drug works by widening blood vessels, so blood passes more easily through them.
In patients with angina, amlodipine works by improving blood flow to the heart muscle, which therefore receives more oxygen to prevent chest pain.
The medication does not provide immediate relief from chest pain caused by angina.
