Atorvastatin is used to lower fats known as cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood when a low-fat diet and lifestyle changes fail on their own. If you are at increased risk of heart disease, atorvastatin may also be used to reduce this risk even if your cholesterol levels are normal.
Do not take atorvastatin:
- If you are allergic to atorvastatin or any of the other ingredients of this medication.
- If you have or have ever had a disease affecting the liver.
- If you have had any unexplained abnormal blood tests for your liver function.
- If you are a woman capable of having children and are not using reliable contraception.
- If you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant.
- If you are breastfeeding.
- If you are using the combination of glecaprevir/pibrentasvir to treat hepatitis C.

Possible side effects:
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking your tablets and tell your doctor straight away or go to your nearest hospital accident and emergency department:
- Serious allergic reaction.
- A serious disease accompanied by severe peeling and swelling of the skin.
- Muscle weakness.
Other medicines and atorvastatin:
There are some medications that may change the effect of atorvastatin or may change the effect of atorvastatin, including:
- Medicines used to change the way your immune system works.
- Certain antibiotics or antifungal medications.
- Other medicines to regulate lipid levels.
- Some calcium channel blockers used for angina or high blood pressure.
- Lermovir.
- Medicines used to treat HIV and hepatitis C.
