Dextrose 5% in saline solution 500 ml (Al-Razi)
Uses:
- Dextrose and sodium chloride injection, is used as a source of water, electrolytes and calories
Contraindications:
- Dextrose-containing solutions are not to be used in patients with known allergies to corn or corn products
Warnings and precautions
- Should be used with extreme caution, however, in patients with congestive heart failure and severe renal insufficiency, and in clinical situations in which edema with sodium retention is present.
- Administration of dextrose and intravenous sodium chloride infusion can result in increased fluid and/or solute dilution leading to dilution of serum electrolyte concentrations, fluid overload, congestion states or pulmonary edema.
- Excessive administration of dextrose and sodium chloride infusion, may result in significant hypokalemia in patients with impaired renal function.
- Administration of dextrose and sodium chloride injection, may lead to sodium retention.
Possible side effects
Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if the following occur::
- Throat tightness
- Swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
- you feel faint
- You find it hard to breathe
- Hives or itching on the face or body
