- Dextrose and sodium chloride injection is used, as a source of water, electrolytes and calories
How to use:
- As directed by your doctor. Dosage is based on the age, weight, and clinical condition of the patient as well as laboratory determinations
Contraindications:
- Do not use dextrose-containing solutions in patients with known hypersensitivity to corn or corn products.
Warnings and precautions
- Should be used with extreme caution, however, in patients with congestive heart failure and severe renal insufficiency, and in clinical situations in which edema with sodium retention is present
- Intravenous administration of dextrose and sodium chloride injection can result in increased fluid and/or solute dilution leading to dilution of serum electrolyte concentrations, fluid overload, congestion states or pulmonary edema
- Excessive administration of dextrose and sodium chloride infusion, may lead to significant hypokalemia in patients with impaired renal function
- Administration of dextrose and sodium chloride injection may lead to sodium retention
Possible side effects
- Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you experience tightness in the throat, swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, feel faint, or have difficulty breathing.
- Stop using the product if you experience hives or itching on the face or body
