Reduces blood pressure and protects against complications of high blood pressure.
Generic name: Perindopril 5 mg + Amlodipine 5 mg tablets.
Coveram 5/5 tablets belong to: blood pressure lowering medicines.
Perindopril belongs to the group of "angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors," a category of medicines mainly used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure.
They work by causing relaxation and widening of blood vessels as well as reducing blood volume, which leads to lower blood pressure and reduced oxygen consumption by the heart. Additionally, Perindopril prevents the conversion of angiotensin 1 to angiotensin 2 and stops the breakdown of prostaglandins that widen blood vessels, which reduces vessel narrowing regulated by angiotensin 2 and promotes vessel widening.
Amlodipine blocks the flow of calcium ions into cells, with a greater effect on the smooth muscle cells in blood vessels, leading to vessel widening and reducing the resistance of blood vessels to blood flow, thus lowering blood pressure.
Used to treat high blood pressure.
High blood pressure is a common condition where the long-term force of blood against artery walls is high enough to eventually cause health problems, such as heart diseases.
Lowering blood pressure reduces the risks of fatal and non-fatal cardiovascular diseases, especially strokes and heart attacks.
