Dusta Plus 0.5 mg / 0.4 mg 30 capsules:
Dusta Plus is a combination medication containing dutasteride 0.5 mg and tamsulosin 0.4 mg, used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. Dutasteride gradually reduces prostate size, while tamsulosin helps relax the muscles of the prostate and bladder neck, improving urine flow and relieving BPH symptoms such as difficulty urinating, weak urine flow, and frequent urination, especially at night.
Uses:
- Treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia in men.
- Improve urine flow and relieve difficulty urinating.
- Reduce frequency and urgency of urination, especially at night.
- Reduce the risk of acute urinary retention.
- Reduce the likelihood of needing surgery related to prostate enlargement.
Usage instructions:
- Take one capsule daily about 30 minutes after the same meal or as directed by your doctor.
- Swallow the capsule whole with enough water; do not open, break, or chew it.
- If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember on the same day; if the next dose is near, skip the missed dose and do not double the dose.
- Full improvement may take several months, so continue treatment as directed by your doctor.
Drug interactions:
Dosta Plus may interact with some medications, including:
- CYP3A4 enzyme inhibitors such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, and ritonavir.
- Some antibiotics such as erythromycin.
- Antihypertensive drugs, which may increase the risk of low blood pressure.
- Other alpha blockers such as alfuzosin or doxazosin.
- Erectile dysfunction drugs such as sildenafil, tadalafil, and vardenafil, which may increase the risk of low blood pressure.
- Warfarin and some anticoagulants, as medical monitoring may be required.
Contraindications:
- Allergy to dutasteride, tamsulosin, or any of the medication’s components.
- Sulfa drug allergy (in some cases, as assessed by the doctor).
- Women and children.
- Patients with a history of severe orthostatic hypotension.
- Severe liver failure.
Warnings and precautions:
- For men only.
- May cause dizziness or fainting, especially when starting treatment or standing up quickly, so it is advised to rise gradually.
- Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney diseases.
- Inform your eye doctor before cataract or glaucoma surgery, as tamsulosin may affect the procedure.
- Dutasteride may lower PSA levels, so inform your doctor when undergoing prostate tests.
- Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should avoid contact with damaged capsules.
Side effects:
Common side effects include:
- Dizziness or low blood pressure upon standing.
- Ejaculation disorders.
- Decreased libido or erectile dysfunction.
- Headache.
- Nasal congestion or runny nose.
Rare but potentially serious side effects include:
- Fainting due to low blood pressure.
- Severe allergic reactions such as rash or swelling of the face or throat.
- Painful or prolonged erection (priapism).
- Changes or lumps in the breast that require immediate medical consultation.
