Ezetimibe 10 mg tablets.
- Ezetimibe is a medication to lower increased levels of cholesterol. Ezetimibe lowers levels of total cholesterol, 'bad' cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) and fatty substances called triglycerides in the blood. In addition, ezetimibe raises levels of 'good' cholesterol (HDL cholesterol). Ezetimibe, the active ingredient in ezetimibe tablets, works by reducing the amount of cholesterol absorbed in the digestive tract.
- Ezetimibe increases the cholesterol-lowering effect of statins. A group of medicines that reduce cholesterol that your body makes itself.
- Ezetimibe Ezetimibe is used for patients who cannot control their cholesterol levels with cholesterol-lowering diet alone.
- You should continue your cholesterol-lowering diet while taking this medication.
Ezetimibe is used in addition to your diet to lower cholesterol if you have:
- High cholesterol level in the blood (primary hypercholesterolemia[متغاير الزيجوت عائلي وغير عائلي]). It can be used on its own, when statin treatment is inappropriate or intolerable or in combination with statins when cholesterol level is not well controlled with statins alone.
- An inherited disease that increases the level of cholesterol in the blood (known as homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia). You will also be prescribed a statin medication and may also receive other treatments
- If you have heart disease, ezetimibe combined with cholesterol-lowering drugs called statins reduces your risk of heart attack, stroke, surgery to increase blood flow to the heart, or hospitalization for chest pain.
- Ezetimibe does not help you lose weight.
How to use Ezetimibe:
- Always take ezetimibe exactly as your doctor has told you. Continue to take other cholesterol-lowering medications unless your doctor tells you to stop. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- Before you start taking ezetimibe, you should follow a diet to lower your cholesterol.
- You should maintain this cholesterol-lowering diet while taking ezetimibe.
- The recommended dose is one ezetimibe 10 mg tablet orally once a day.
- Take ezetimibe at any time of the day. You can take it with or without food.
- If your doctor prescribes ezetimibe with a statin, both medications may be taken at the same time. In this case, please read the dosage instructions provided in the package leaflet for that specific medicine.
- If your doctor has prescribed ezetimibe with any medicine that contains cholestyramine, colestipol, or colesevelam, you should take ezetimibe at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after taking the other medicine.

Warnings and precautions:
You should tell your doctor about the following:
- If you have moderate or severe liver problems, ezetimibe is not recommended.
- The combined use of ezetimibe and fibrates (cholesterol-lowering drugs) should be avoided as their safety and effectiveness have not been established.
Other medications and ezetimibe:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any of the following:
- Cyclosporine (often used in organ transplant patients).
- Medicines that contain active ingredients to prevent blood clots, such as warfarin, phenprocoumon, acenocoumarol or fluindione (anticoagulants).
- Cholestyramine (also used to lower cholesterol), because it affects the way ezetimibe works.
- Fibrates (also used to lower cholesterol).
Possible side effects:
Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue, skin rash
- Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness.
