- Levetiracetam 100 mg tablets.
What is levetiracetam and what is it used for:
- Levetiracetam is a medication commonly used as an adjuvant therapy to treat several types of seizures (abnormal electrical connections in the brain) in children and adults.
Do not take levetiracetam:
- If you are allergic to levetiracetam, or any other ingredients contained in this medication. Tell your doctor about the symptoms you experience.
How to take Levetiracetam:
Adult and pediatric patients:
- The recommended dose is individual based on age and reason for taking the medication. The medication is usually taken twice a day. Take as directed by your doctor.
- Take tablets with or without food.
- Take the tablet with a full glass of water.
- Do not chew or crush the tablets.
- If you are prescribed an oral solution, be sure to ask your pharmacist for a medicine dropper to help you measure your dose. Do not use a household spoon.
Warnings and precautions:
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience an allergic reaction such as shortness of breath, rash, swelling of the face or neck.
- Do not stop taking the medication without consulting your doctor. Suddenly stopping this medication may make your cramps worse. The dose should be reduced gradually.
- Call your doctor if you experience unusual changes in behavior or mood, appearance or worsening depression, suicidal thoughts, excessive sleepiness, or tiredness and weakness.
- Call your doctor if you have liver problems such as dark urine, feeling tired, not hungry, upset stomach or stomach pain, light-colored stools, vomiting, or yellow skin or eyes.
- This medication may cause blood problems such as neutropenia (low number of neutrophils, neutrophils are responsible for fighting infections caused by bacteria), low red blood cells and hemoglobin (responsible for transporting oxygen to body tissues) and other blood problems. Be sure to watch for signs of infection, fever, and paleness.

Possible side effects of levetiracetam include:
- Allergic reaction, mood or behavioral changes, drowsiness, weakness, fatigue, problems with muscle movements, dizziness, and infections. Additional side effects that may be seen in children include: irritability, hostility, and accidental injury.
