Uses:
- Ondansetron is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery.
- It works by blocking the action of serotonin, a natural substance that may cause nausea and vomiting.
Usage Instructions:
- To prevent nausea from chemotherapy, usually take this medicine within 30 minutes before starting treatment.
- To prevent nausea from radiation therapy, take this medicine one to two hours before starting treatment.
- To prevent nausea after surgery, take ondansetron one hour before the start of surgery.
Warnings and precautions:
Ondansetron should not be used if:
- You are allergic to ondansetron or similar drugs (dolasetron, granisetron, palonosetron).
- Liver disease.
- Electrolyte imbalance (such as low potassium or magnesium levels in the blood).
- Congestive heart failure and slow heart rate.
- Personal or family history of long QT syndrome.
- Obstruction in the digestive system (stomach or intestines).
