Optidex T eye drops 5 ml:

  • Suspension eye drops Tobramycin 3 mg/ml / Dexamethasone 1 mg/ml

What is the use of tobramycin/dexamethasone:

  • This product is used to prevent bacterial infections and to prevent/treat inflammation after cataract eye surgery in adults and children over 2 years of age.

Instructions for use:

  • Use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Ask your doctor if you are not sure.
  • wash your hands. When opening the bottle for the first time, tear off the plastic safety strip. Remove the bottle cap. Shake the bottle well.
  • Tilt your head slightly back and pull your lower eyelid down to create a pocket. Hold the bottle over your eye with the tip facing down.
  • Look up and away from the bottle and squeeze the container to release a drop. Let go of the lower eyelid and close your eyes for one minute. If you miss an eye drop, repeat the steps.
  • Wipe any excess drops from your cheeks. Repeat the same steps after opening the bottle for the other eye if necessary.
  • Apply your eye drops at least 5 minutes apart.
  • Use the medication at the same time every day.
  • Do not stop using your medications without consulting your doctor.
  • Do not use the eye drops if the seal on the neck of the bottle is broken when you first use it.
  • Avoid contact of the eye drop tip with the eye or other surfaces to prevent bacterial contamination that may lead to eye infection and serious eye damage.
  • Contact your doctor if you suspect that your eye drops are contaminated.

Do not use tobramycin/dexamethasone:

  • If you are allergic to tobramycin, dexamethasone, or any of the ingredients in this medication. Tell your doctor about your allergy and signs.
  • If you have or think you have an eye infection. Using corticosteroids on affected eyes may worsen the infection.
  • If you have sticky discharge from your eyes.
  • If you have red eyes that have not been checked by your doctor.

Warnings and precautions:

  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience an allergic reaction such as shortness of breath, rash, swelling of the face or neck. Your doctor should start appropriate treatment if this occurs.
  • Talk to your doctor before starting tobramycin/dexamethasone if you wear soft contact lenses.
  • This medication is for topical ophthalmic use only and should not be used for injection into the eye.
  • You may be allergic to this medication. If this happens, stop using it.
  • Prolonged use of this medication may cause overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. In case of additional infection, your doctor should start appropriate treatment. Prolonged use may also cause increased intraocular pressure and/or cataracts.
  • Cross-sensitivity to other aminoglycoside antibiotics may occur (experience hypersensitivity reactions to other aminoglycoside antibiotics if you have had similar reactions to an aminoglycoside antibiotic).
  • Do not wear contact lenses if you have signs and symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis (such as eye discharge, redness, swelling, or itching of the eye).
  • Talk to your doctor if your eye condition gets worse or if you experience new symptoms. You may become more likely to get infections when using this medication.
  • Talk to your doctor before starting this medication if you have a problem that may cause thinning of eye tissue (such as rheumatoid arthritis, Fuchs' dystrophy, or after a corneal transplant). Use of corticosteroids may increase the risk of thinning of eye tissue, which may lead to perforation, and may also delay the healing of your eye wound.
  • Talk to your doctor before starting this medication if you are using topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that are used to reduce inflammation and pain. Concomitant use of topical NSAIDs with dexamethasone may slow or delay healing.
  • Talk to your doctor before starting this medication if you have diabetes (high blood glucose levels) as the risk of increased eye pressure caused by corticosteroids may be higher if you have diabetes.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have blurred vision or other visual problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are using other antibiotics, including oral antibiotics. Talk to your doctor if you currently have or have previously had medical problems that may cause muscle weakness such as myasthenia gravis or Parkinson's disease as use of antibiotics of this type may worsen muscle weakness.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have symptoms of Cushing's syndrome, a syndrome manifested by swelling and weight gain around the trunk and face.
  • You may experience suppressed function of your adrenal gland (kidney gland) after stopping long-term or intensive treatment with this medicine. Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first. The risk of developing adrenal suppression is higher in children and patients treated with medications known as ritonavir or cobicistat.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have signs and symptoms of adrenal suppression such as fatigue, muscle weakness, dizziness when standing, difficulty standing, weight loss, fever, anxiety, vomiting, nausea, headache, diarrhea, sweating, mood or personality changes, joint pain or Muscles.
  • Your doctor should monitor your eye pressure frequently (especially in children under 6 years of age).
  • The safety and effectiveness of this medicine in children under 2 years have not been proven and therefore it is not recommended in this group of patients.
  • This product contains a preservative known as benzalkonium chloride which can affect the color of your soft contact lenses and may also cause eye irritation, especially if you have corneal problems or dry eyes, so be sure to remove the soft contact lens before putting in the eye drops and wait 15 minutes. At least before putting your contact lenses back on.
