What is prednisolone acetate and what are its uses:

  • Prednisolone Acetate reduces the irritation, burning, redness, and swelling of eye inflammation caused by chemicals, heat, radiation, allergies, or foreign bodies in the eye.

How to make prednisolone 1% eye drops:

  • Prednisolone is a corticosteroid used to relieve inflammation in the palpebral conjunctiva, sclera, cornea, and anterior part of the eyeball.

How to use Optipred eye drops:

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.
    Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
    The recommended dose is 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) 2 to 4 times a day
  • Wash your hands. Shake the container well before use. Tilt your head back and look at the ceiling.
  • Gently pull the lower eyelid down until there is a small pocket.
  • Turn the bottle upside down and squeeze one or two drops into each eye that needs treatment.
  • Let go of the lower eyelid and close your eye. Press your finger into the corner of your eye (the side where your eye meets your nose) for one minute.

Do not use prednisolone acetate:

  • If you are allergic to prednisolone acetate, benzalkonium chloride, or any of the other ingredients of this drug.
  • If you have a viral, fungal or bacterial eye infection.
  • If you suffer from eye tuberculosis.
  • If you have injuries or ulcers in the cornea.
  • If you have ever had herpes simplex.

Warnings and precautions:

Talk to your doctor before using prednisolone acetate if you have or have suffered in the past from:

  • Have eye ulcers or have had an eye disease or treatment that causes thinning of the tissue.
  • Glaucoma or you are being treated for high pressure inside the eye.
  • Surgery to treat cataracts.
  • Bacterial, viral or fungal eye infection.

Possible side effects of prednisolone acetate:

You should see your doctor if any of the following effects prove bothersome or if they are long-lasting:

  •  Allergic reaction.
  • Headache.
  • Increased pressure inside the eye.
  • The center of the eye becomes cloudy (cataract).
  • Feeling that there is something in your eyes.
  • Eye infections (bacterial, fungal or viral).
  • Mild stinging or irritation.
  • Red eye.
  • Blurred or weak vision.
  • Dilated pupil.
  • Change in sense of taste.
  • Skin rash or itching.
