Risperdal tablets are used to treat and maintain severe mental disorder (called schizophrenia). This medication works by restricting the activity of certain natural chemicals in the brain. Risperdal is also used for short-term treatment of severe mood swings (bipolar mania), to treat irritability associated with communication and interaction difficulties (autism disorder), for short-term treatment of persistent aggression in patients with moderate to severe memory loss, and for short-term treatment of persistent aggression with antisocial behavior (known as conduct disorder).
