Riapanta 40 mg 30 tablets:

• Riapanta is a 'selective proton pump inhibitor', which is a medicine that reduces the amount of acid produced in your stomach. It is used to treat diseases related to stomach and intestinal acid.

Riapanta is used in:

• Adults and adolescents 12 years of age and older:
• Reflux esophagitis. Inflammation of the esophagus (the tube that connects the throat to the stomach) accompanied by vomiting of stomach acid.

Do not take Riapanta:

• If you are allergic (allergic) to Riapanta or to any of the other ingredients of Riapanta.
• If you are allergic to other medicines that contain proton pump inhibitors.
• Special care with Riapanta
• If you have severe liver problems. Please tell your doctor if you have ever had liver problems. He or she will check your liver enzymes more frequently, especially when you are taking Riapanta as a long-term treatment. If there is an increase in liver enzymes, treatment should be discontinued.
• If you have low levels of vitamin B12 or a risk factor for low vitamin B12 and are taking Riapanta as a long-term treatment. As with all acid-reducing medicines, Riapanta may decrease the absorption of the vitamin
• If you take a medicine containing atazanavir (to treat HIV infection) at the same time as Riabenta, ask your doctor for specialist advice.

Instructions for use:

• Always take Riapanta exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

• Take one tablet one hour before eating without chewing or breaking it, and swallow it whole with some water.

• Bacterial infection called Helicobacter pylori in patients with duodenal ulcers and stomach ulcers in combination with two antibiotics (elimination therapy). The goal is to get rid of bacteria and thus reduce the possibility of the ulcer returning.
• Gastric and duodenal ulcers
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other conditions where too much acid is secreted in the stomach.

Warnings and precautions:

• Tell your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following symptoms:
• unintentional weight loss
• frequent vomiting
• Difficulty swallowing
• vomiting blood
• Looking pale and feeling weak (anemia)
• You notice blood in your stool.
• Severe and/or persistent diarrhea, Riabenta has also been associated with a slight increase in infectious diarrhea.
• Your doctor may decide that you need some tests to rule out malignant diseases because Riapenta also causes some symptoms of cancer and may delay the diagnosis. If your symptoms persist despite your treatment, this should be taken into account. 
• If you take Riapenta long-term (longer than one year) your doctor may keep you tested regularly. You should report any new or unexpected side effects when you see your doctor.
