Secnid 500 mg 4 tablets:

• Secnidazole is used to treat vaginal infections (vaginitis) caused by bacteria in adult women and trichomoniasis (an infection of the reproductive organs in men or women caused by protozoa).
• Antiparasitic from the nitroimidazole series. Its activity affects Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, Trichomonas vaginalis and Gardnerella vaginalis.
• Treatment of intestinal amebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, chronic amebiasis, hepatic amebiasis, intestinal amebiasis (acute, asymptomatic), urethritis and vaginitis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, non-specific vaginitis or bacterial vaginosis.
• It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.

Instructions for use:

• Secnidazole tablet should be taken orally.

Secnidazole tablet dosage schedule is given below:

Acute intestinal amebiasis:

grown ups:

• One dose is 2 g (2 x 1000 mg tablet), preferably taken immediately before a meal.

children:

• 30 mg/kg as a single dose, preferably immediately before eating.

Asymptomatic amebiasis (micro and cystic form):

grown ups:

• 2 gm once daily (2 x 1000 mg tablet) for 3 days only, preferably taken immediately before a meal.

children:

• 30 mg/kg once daily for 3 days only, preferably just before a meal.

Hepatic amebiasis:

grown ups:

• 50 g/day in a single or divided dose immediately before a meal for 5 days.

children:

• 30 mg/kg/day in a single or divided dose immediately before a meal for 5 days.

Note: Evacuation of pus should be performed in conjunction with secnidazole treatment in the suppurative phase of hepatic amebiasis.

Giardiasis:

grown ups:

• One dose: 2 gm tablets x 1000 mg, preferably taken immediately before a meal.

children:

• 35-50 mg/kg single dose, preferably immediately before a meal.

Trichomoniasis:

grown ups:

• One dose is 2 g (2 x 1000 mg tablet), preferably taken immediately before a meal.

children:

• 30 mg/kg as a single dose, preferably immediately before eating.

The partner should receive the same treatment at the same time.

Warnings and precautions:

• Secnidazole is not used in patients who are allergic to imidazole derivatives.
• Store in a cool, dry place, away from heat.
