Seritide 250 mg Diskus 60 Puffs:

Fluticasone propionate/salmeterol xinafoate  250/50 powder for inhalation

What is fluticasone propionate/salmeterol xinafoate used for?

  • The fluticasone propionate/salmeterol xinafoate combination is used to treat symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.
  • It is not used when acute episodes of shortness of breath occur.
  • Do not take fluticasone propionate/salmeterol xinafoate 
  • If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • If you are allergic to milk.

How to take fluticasone propionate/salmeterol xinafoate:

  • Not for use in children under 4 years of age.
  • Use this drug as ordered by your doctor.
  • Use this medication by inhalation only.
  • The usual recommended dose is one inhalation twice a day, in the morning and evening.

Warnings and precautions:

Tell your doctor about all your health conditions, including, if you have:
  • If you suffer from heart problems.
  • If you suffer from high blood pressure.
  • If you have seizures.
  • If you suffer from thyroid problems.
  • If you suffer from diabetes or have high blood sugar.
  • If you suffer from liver problems.
  • If you suffer from weak bones (osteoporosis).
  • If you have an immune system problem.
  • If you have eye problems such as glaucoma or increased pressure in your eye.
  • If you have any type of viral, bacterial, fungal or parasitic infection.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding.

Possible side effects:

Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a rash; Itch; red, blistered, or peeling skin; tightness in the chest or throat; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; Unusual hoarseness or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. The frequency with which these side effects occur is unknown.

Serious side effects:
  • Lung infections.
  • Decreased adrenal function.
  • Serious breathing problems immediately after taking a dose.
  • Weak immune system.
  • Osteoporosis (thinning of the bones).

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take.
Fluticasone propionate/salmeterol xinafoate fumarate interacts with the following medications:
  • Beta blockers such as metoprolol used to treat blood pressure.
  • Some antifungals such as ketoconazole and itraconazole.
  • Some antibiotics such as clarithromycin.
  • Some antivirals used for HIV such as ritonavir.
  • Medicines to treat depression, psychiatric disorders, or Parkinson's disease.
  • Medicines used to treat heart failure such as digoxin.
  • Other corticosteroids.
  • Some other medicines used to treat asthma.
