Simva 40 mg 30 tablets:
- Simvastatin is a medication used to lower levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and fatty substances called triglycerides in the blood.
- In addition, simvastatin raises levels of "good" cholesterol (cholesterol). Simvastatin is a member of the class of medications called statins.
How simvastatin works:
- Simvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication that belongs to the cholesterol-lowering "statin" class. Statins lower blood cholesterol levels by blocking 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMG-CoA), an enzyme necessary for cholesterol production in the liver.
- Low cholesterol concentration in the liver stimulates an increase in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors, which increases the liver's uptake of LDL and reduces the level of LDL in the blood.
Do not use simvastatin:
- If you are allergic to simvastatin or any of the other ingredients of this medication
- If you currently suffer from liver problems,
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding,
- If you are taking or have taken, in the last 7 days, a medicine called fusidic acid by mouth or by injection. The combination of fusidic acid and simvastatin can cause serious muscle problems.
- Do not take more than 40 mg of simvastatin if you are taking lomitapide.
How to use Simvastatin:
- You should remain on a cholesterol-lowering diet while taking simvastatin.
- Your doctor will determine which concentration of tablets is right for you, depending on your condition, current treatment and personal risk profile.
- Always take this medication exactly as your doctor has told you to. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- The tablets can be taken at any time of the day, but the most common instruction is to take statins at night. This is because cholesterol production is thought to be higher at night.
- If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.
Warnings and precautions:
Tell your doctor:
- If you drink large amounts of alcohol.
- If you have ever had liver disease. Simvastatin may not be right for you.
