  • In addition, simvastatin raises levels of "good" cholesterol (cholesterol). Simvastatin is a member of the class of medications called statins.

How to use simvastatin:

  • Dosage: The recommended dose is simvastatin 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, or 80 mg orally once a day.
  • Adults: The usual starting dose is 10, 20, or 40 mg per day in some cases.
  • Your doctor may adjust your dose after at least 4 weeks to a maximum of 80 mg per day. Do not take more than 80 mg per day.
