Tobradex eye ointment 3.5 g:

What is the use of tobramycin/dexamethasone:

  • This product is used to treat inflammatory eye problems that respond to treatment with corticosteroids and that occur with superficial bacterial eye infections.
  • Or where the risk of superficial bacterial eye infections is high.

Instructions for use:

  • Use this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Ask your doctor if you are not sure.
  • Make sure the cap and tube are not broken before using the ointment. Wash your hands and open the tube by unscrewing the cap. Hold the tube of ointment between your index finger and thumb as close to your eyelid as possible.
  • Tilt your head slightly forward and pull the lower eyelid away from your eye to form a pouch between the eyelid and the eye.
  • Carefully squeeze the ointment strip (about 1-1.5 cm), and place the eye ointment strip in the bag between the eyelid and the eye.
  • Next, look down slightly and then make sure to gently close your eyelid for one to two minutes and then rotate the eyeball in all directions, to promote the spread of the medicine over the entire surface of the eye.
  • Apply your eye drops at least 5 minutes apart.
  • Use the medication at the same time every day.
  • Do not stop using your medications without consulting your doctor.
  • Avoid contact of the ointment tip with the eye or other surfaces to prevent bacterial contamination that may lead to eye infection and serious eye damage.
  • Contact your doctor if you suspect the ointment is contaminated.

Do not use tobramycin/dexamethasone:

  • If you are allergic to tobramycin, dexamethasone, or any of the ingredients in this medication. Tell your doctor about your allergy and signs.
  • If you have or think you have an eye infection that does not respond to tobramycin (such as viral infections caused by varicella, vaccine, or herpes simplex viruses, fungal infections, and fungal infections). Using corticosteroids on infected eyes that do not respond to this type of antibiotic may worsen the infection.

Warnings and precautions:

  • Stop using this medication and talk to your doctor if you develop allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, rash, swelling of the face or neck, low blood pressure, or dizziness. Your doctor should start appropriate treatment if this occurs.
  • In severe suppurative problems and parasitic eye infections, corticosteroids may mask signs of infection or worsen existing infections.
  • Talk to your doctor before starting tobramycin/dexamethasone if you wear soft contact lenses.
  • This medication is for topical ophthalmic use only and should not be used for injection into the eye.
  • You may be allergic to this medication. If this happens, stop using it.
  • Prolonged use of this medication may cause overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. In case of additional infection, your doctor should start appropriate treatment. Prolonged use may also cause increased intraocular pressure and/or cataracts.
  • Cross-sensitivity to other aminoglycoside antibiotics may occur (experience hypersensitivity reactions to other aminoglycoside antibiotics if you have had similar reactions to an aminoglycoside antibiotic).
  • Do not wear contact lenses if you have signs and symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis (such as eye discharge, redness, swelling, or itching of the eye).
  • Talk to your doctor if your eye condition gets worse or if you experience new symptoms. You may become more likely to get infections when using this medication.
  • Talk to your doctor before starting this medication if you have a problem that may cause thinning of eye tissue (such as rheumatoid arthritis, Fuchs' dystrophy, or after a corneal transplant). Use of corticosteroids may increase the risk of thinning of eye tissue, which may lead to perforation, and may also delay the healing of your eye wound.
  • Talk to your doctor before starting this medication if you have diabetes (high blood glucose levels) as the risk of increased eye pressure caused by corticosteroids may be higher if you have diabetes.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have blurred vision or other visual problems.
  • Your doctor should monitor your eye pressure frequently.
  • The safety and effectiveness of this medicine in children under 2 years have not been proven and therefore it is not recommended in this group of patients.
