Tobrex 0.3% Eye Drops 5 ml:

Eye drop solution containing tobramycin 0.3%

Tobramycin is a medicine belonging to a group of medicines called "aminoglycoside antibiotics".

It is used to treat patients with external bacterial infections of the eye.

Do not use tobramycin:

If you are allergic to tobramycin or any of the ingredients in this medicine. Inform your doctor about any allergies and the symptoms you have.

Warnings and precautions:

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you experience an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, rash, swelling of the face or neck.

Your doctor should start appropriate treatment if this occurs.

Talk to your doctor before starting tobramycin if you wear soft contact lenses.

This medicine is intended for topical use in the eye only and should not be used for injection into the eye.

You may develop sensitivity to this medicine. If this happens, stop using it.

Prolonged use of this medicine may lead to excessive growth of insensitive organisms, including fungi. In case of additional infection, your doctor should start appropriate treatment.

Cross-sensitivity may occur with other aminoglycoside antibiotics (you may have allergic reactions to other aminoglycoside antibiotics if you have had similar reactions to an aminoglycoside antibiotic before).

Do not wear contact lenses if you have signs and symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis (such as eye discharge, redness, swelling, or itching).

The safety and effectiveness of this medicine have not been established in children under two months old.
Talk to your doctor if your eye condition worsens or if you experience new symptoms.

Possible side effects:

Possible side effects include allergic symptoms, hypersensitivity, and local eye toxicity (such as eye discomfort, eyelid itching, swelling, and redness).

Other medicines and tobramycin:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, including prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements, and eye drops.
If you use more than one eye drop solution, make sure to use each with at least a five-minute interval to avoid washing out the drops.

How to use tobramycin:

Mild to moderate infections:

The usual recommended dose is one to two drops in the affected eye every four hours.

Severe infections:

The usual recommended dose is two drops in the affected eye(s) every hour until the infection improves; your doctor may then reduce the dose before stopping the medicine completely.

Usage instructions:

Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribed. Ask your doctor if you are unsure.

Wash your hands. When opening the bottle for the first time, tear off the plastic safety strip. Remove the bottle cap. Tilt your head slightly back and pull down your lower eyelid to form a pocket. Hold the bottle above your eye with the tip pointing downward.

Look upward and away from the bottle, then press the container to release a drop. Leave the lower eyelid and close your eyes for two minutes or as long as possible in infants and children (for example, 3-5 minutes). If you miss a drop, repeat the steps.

Wipe any excess drops from your cheek. Repeat the same steps after opening the bottle for the other eye if needed.
Apply your eye drops at least 5 minutes apart.

Use the medicine at the same time every day.

Do not stop using your medicines without consulting your doctor.

Do not use the eye drops if the seal on the neck of the bottle is broken when first used.

Avoid touching the tip of the eye drop bottle to your eye or other surfaces to prevent bacterial contamination that may cause eye infection and serious eye damage.

Contact your doctor if you suspect your eye drops are contaminated.
