Ursofalk 500 Mg 50 Tablets :

  • Please note that the doctor may have prescribed the medicine for different uses and/or at a different dose than stated in the package leaflet.
  • Always follow the doctor's prescriptions as shown on the pharmacy label.
  • Ursodeoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in Ursofalk capsules, is a natural bile acid found in small amounts in human bile.

Ursofalk is used:

  • To dissolve small gallstones.
  • For liver disease (primary biliary cirrhosis), among other things, to stimulate bile flow.
  • For liver disease associated with a condition called cystic fibrosis (also called CF) in children aged 6 to 18 years.

Usage instructions:

  • Always use Ursofalk as your doctor has told you. Contact a doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Gallstone dissolution:

  • The usual dose is 10-12 mg per kilogram of body weight daily divided into two doses.
  • It usually takes 6 to 24 months for gallstones to dissolve. If the size of the gallstones has not decreased after 12 months, treatment should be stopped.
  • To treat gallstones, a test will be done after 6 to 10 months of treatment to check if the treatment is successful.

Primary biliary cirrhosis:

  • The usual dose is 12-16 mg per kilogram of body weight daily.
  • During the first three months after starting treatment, Ursofalk intake should be spread throughout the day. When liver values improve, the dose can be taken once daily, preferably in the evening.
  • There are no restrictions on the duration of treatment with this medicine in the case of primary biliary cirrhosis.
  • In patients with primary biliary cirrhosis, symptoms may rarely worsen at the start of treatment, for example, itching. If this occurs, treatment can continue with a lower dose of Ursofalk. Later, your doctor will increase the daily dose weekly to the recommended daily dose.
  • Swallow the capsules whole with plenty of fluids. They should be taken regularly to achieve successful results.

Do not use Ursofalk:

  • If you are allergic to bile acids or any other ingredients of this medicine.
  • If you have acute inflammation of the gallbladder or bile duct.
  • If you suffer from recurrent attacks of biliary colic.
  • If you have a blockage in the bile ducts.
  • If the gallbladder cannot contract sufficiently.
  • If you have calcified gallstones visible on X-rays.
  • If your child has bile duct narrowing and poor bile flow, even after surgery.

Warnings and precautions:

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Ursofalk:

  • During the first three months of treatment, liver function will be monitored to see if the treatment is working and to check for side effects in the liver.
  • Women taking Ursofalk to dissolve gallstones should use only non-hormonal contraceptives because oral hormonal contraceptives can promote gallstone formation.
  • In patients with primary biliary cirrhosis, symptoms may rarely worsen at the start of treatment, for example, itching. If this occurs, treatment can continue with a lower dose of Ursofalk. Later, your doctor will increase the daily dose weekly to the recommended daily dose.
  • You should inform your doctor if you develop diarrhea, as the dose of Ursofalk may need to be adjusted.

Ingredients:

  • The active ingredient is Ursodeoxycholic acid 500 mg.
