How betahistine works
The mechanism of action of betahistine is partially known. As betahistine acts as an antagonist of histamine H3 receptors and as a stimulator of histamine H1 receptors as well, betahistine increases blood flow to the brain.
Medical uses of Betaserc 24 mg tablets
It is a medication used to treat Meniere's disease which is manifested by three different signs, vertigo (dizziness associated with vomiting or nausea), tinnitus (hearing sounds in the absence of external sounds such as tinnitus) and hearing loss or decreased ability to hear.
It is also used to relieve the symptoms of vestibular vertigo (vertigo even when you are not moving).
How to use Betaserc 24 mg tablets
Take the medication exactly as recommended by your doctor. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
It may take up to two weeks for symptoms to start improving. It may also take a few months to get optimal relief. Treatment is likely to prevent disease progression
The dose of this medication does not need to be adjusted if you have liver or kidney problems.
You can take the medication during meals or reduce the dose if you experience gastrointestinal side effects
The total recommended daily dose is 24-48 mg divided into multiple doses given throughout the day at equal intervals.
If you are using 8 mg of betahistine dihydrochloride: Take 1-2 tablets by mouth three times daily.
If you are using 16 mg betahistine dihydrochloride: Take 1/2 - 1 tablet orally three times daily.
If you are using 24 mg Betahistine dihydrochloride: The total daily dose is 48 mg divided throughout the day.
Your doctor will recommend other doses if necessary depending on how you respond to the medication.
This medicine is not recommended for use in children
Doses may be changed in special circumstances, so always follow your doctor or pharmacist's instructions.
If you take more medicine than you should, talk to your doctor or go to hospital straight away.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.
