Ciprofloxacin is used to treat or prevent infections caused by bacteria sensitive to ciprofloxacin.
Do not take ciprofloxacin
If you are allergic to the active substance or any antibiotics from the quinolone family or any other ingredients of this medicine.
If you are taking the medicine tizanidine.
Inform your doctor about all your health conditions, including if you have:
Tendon problems.
Heart problems, including heart failure or irregular heartbeat.
Nervous system problems such as epilepsy or seizures.
Nerve problems.
Kidney problems.
Liver problems.
Rheumatoid arthritis or other joint problems.
Myasthenia gravis.
Diabetes.
If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
This medicine may cause inflammation or rupture of tendons or nervous system problems.
The risk of tendon inflammation or rupture increases in people over 60 years old; patients with heart, kidney, or lung transplants; or those taking steroid medicines.
The risk of joint problems increases in children under 18 years old.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Take this medicine as directed by your doctor.
Take this medicine at the same time each day.
Take this medicine with a full glass of water.
Do not take this medicine with dairy products such as milk or yogurt or calcium-rich juices.
Swallow the tablets whole. Avoid chewing, breaking, or crushing.
For adults: the usual dose is between 250 - 750 mg every 12 hours.
For children: doses are usually given according to the child's body weight in mg/kg/dose. Usually between 10-20 mg/kg/dose every 12 hours.
