Clarithromycin 500 mg tablets

Why is Clarithromycin used:

Clarithromycin is used to treat or prevent infections caused by bacteria sensitive to clarithromycin.

Do not take Clarithromycin

If you are allergic to the active substances or to the macrolide group or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

If you are taking any of the following medicines: cisapride, pimozide, astemizole, terfenadine, ergotamine or dihydroergotamine, lomitapide, simvastatin or lovastatin.

If you are taking colchicine and suffer from kidney or liver diseases.

If you have an irregular heartbeat called prolonged QT intervals.

Warnings and precautions:

Inform your doctor about all your health conditions, including if you have:

• If you suffer from liver and/or kidney diseases.
• If you have any heart problems.
• If you have low levels of potassium or magnesium.

Use for longer than the stated instructions is prohibited. A second infection may occur.

This medicine may worsen symptoms of myasthenia gravis.

Possible side effects:

Stop using this product and seek immediate medical care if you develop a rash; itching; red, sore, or peeling skin; tightness in the chest or throat; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; unusual hoarseness or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.

The frequency of these side effects is unknown.

Common side effects:

• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Change in taste ability
• Stomach upset
• Headache
• Changes in liver function
• Rash (in children)
