Clarithromycin is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. This medicine can also be used with ulcer medications to treat certain types of stomach ulcers.
It can also be used to prevent some types of bacterial infections. Clarithromycin is known as a macrolide antibiotic.
It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
These antibiotics will not work with viral infections (such as colds and flu).
Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can lead to infections not responding in the future.
Medical uses of Clacid 500 mg tablets
Throat infections (pharyngitis / tonsillitis).
Respiratory infections: sinus infections, bronchitis, and pneumonia.
Skin infections.
Fungal infections.
Helicobacter pylori bacterial infection (with other medicines).
Middle ear infections in children (otitis media).
Take this medicine as directed by your doctor.
Doses depend on the site of infection and severity of the condition.
The usual dose is 500 mg every 12 hours.
For children, doses are calculated based on the child's weight in mg/kg/day. The usual dose is 15 - 20 mg/kg/day.
